Normally each fancier will have their own method of training birds based on their time availability and other daily chores.
I too adopt the one which is best for me but may not be best for some other.

I separate the young ones by the time they are 30 days from the parents and start feeding them on my own. by the time they are 2 months i start resting them on the wired cage where they are desired to land after their training. I usually do not fly them until they are old enough say about till they loose their first 3 feathers by molting.

by this age they will be able to identify the local surroundings and landing place. i slowly start chasing them from the landing board not frightening them but just chasing them so that they dont sit their and need to fly.

they start slowly but by 2-3 days they start flying well say upto 45 minutes sometimes 2 hours (depends on the blood lines you have). i Normally start with 5 young ones at a time. And see to that they dont go too far away by using some birds as droppers. I dont use the big birds to train young ones because they some times take the young ones too far away from where they will not be able to return. By 1 week the birds are well aware of the surroundings and can fly independently. So i start flying them alone one after the other. this is when you come to know which are the birds that the really worth having for the next year.

Then comes the tumbling thing which is most important for any tumbler. the young birds are by now already tail riding diving and also bending the maximum in an attempt to tumble. they slowly learn that act on their own. Dont use the old birds to train youngsters tumble becoz when ever i did the young ones started tumbling too early and too much and went as waste. So let them take their own time on that.

INDIAN TUMBLERS Home

http://tumblerpigeons.wetpaint.com is my new website you can mail me on sharathbabum@gmail.com

Hi all,

I am Sharath from Bangalore, the capital city of Karnataka also known as the garden city in India.
The website i have created here is a subject of interest to thousands of people through out the world.

I have been inspired to do this website after seeing a lots of websites on the Internet. What i observed was that most of the sites are contributed on "homing Pigeon" which are really famous for their ability to come back to their house from long distances. Though all pigeons do have this ability to find their house, the homing pigeon are considered as birds with greatest homing Ability.

This site has been mainly created by me to help beginners to have some good information about the "Tumbling" type of pigeons from India. These great and fascinating birds have been here in India from thousands of years. How these Strain came to India, were they originated here is anyhow not known till today, but there are a thousand of people who are indulged in this hobby and love their birds as much as their own children.

We here in Bangalore city mainly use these birds for competition purpose and all fanciers will have a great pride in their own blood lines. They would have obtained these strains from old fanciers sometimes freely or sometimes for money. But those who really like to grow this fancy just give it off to those who are most interested.
I would expect many fanciers through world wide to look at the breeds here in Bangalore city and correct me in any way of i am wrong. As this fancy has a lot of unknown secrets the deeper and deeper we go.
I would expect many fanciers through world wide to look at the breeds here in Bangalore city and correct me in any way of i am wrong. For that at least you need to know the birds that you need to get from him as all birds cannot be considered from a very good strain. More over many fancier do not share their strains and may strains are just lost With their masters.

The main thing to be seen before taking a tumbler are the head, Beak, neck, Body posture, length of the primaries, and yes off course the eyes.

Head - Normally tumblers have round heads with good shaped foreheads, the forehead looks as if protruded a little bit more when compared to the normal pigeons.

Beak - Tumblers will have a medium or a short beak, the colour of the beak depends on the colour of the bird. The cere will be well formed and round in shape well placed between the eyes and the beak.

Neck - they will normally have a thick neck which is not held too high or too short. The neck and the chest posture will resemble as if held high in pride.

Body posture - The bird totally looks as if carrying the weight on the toes though it stands fully on the feet.

Primaries - tumblers normally have long and well built primaries helping them in their long flights.

Eye - Eye can of any colour and but we prefer birds with pearl eyes or yellow. There can be many other variants too. like the Bull eyes, Pearl with pink shades.

Colours are also a main part of identifying the birds and their breeds in tumbler pigeon which we will look at on forth coming pages.

To directly go to particular colour variants in which you are interested or expertised click on the links below.
Blue or grey,White,Brown,Black

Thamral

There is no abstract available for this page revision.

Variants of Black

Black colour in pigeons are considered to be of very good flying quality alike grey bars. The eye colour is normally Bull and on rare occasions we find a pearl eye,. these are very rare type of tumblers not all fanciers will have this type and those who have will be very proud of their birds.

80% of fanciers with this kind of tumblers will not have a good strain which can tumble very well or some times not fly for long hours. those who have will never give it to others.

The above photo is a Hen which I posses. its around 1 year old hen and does not have good tumbling abilities.

Importance of EYE - Dear friends not all whites with bull eyes are tumblers. please do not buy a white with bull eyes until you have seen it for yourself. Also note that all tara eyed Tumblers will have a different pattern when you look their eye in the sunlight. If a Tara with bull eyes reflects a red base in its eye then its not a tumbler. Only birds which show a mix of pearl and pink when seen in sunlight are tumblers. Also you will have to see the body posture and other factors before you decide to buy a self white Girebaaz.

Variants of White

Variants of white includes the "SELF WHITE" too in it, other than self white all variants of white are normally with a equally mixed colour and hence cannot be called direct variants of White.

only the pigeon that is a grizzle which has more than 70% of white mix can be called a variant of White.
Please note that you need to have a tumbler in the first place to categorize it into some breed. Such Blue barred birds with red or bronze patches over the primary flights are called the regdhar types. you can see in to photos an illustration of the same.

sometimes the bird can be barred / checkered / grizzle etc - what ever the pattern may be it should be contributed only by blue and black mix where blue would be the base and black the pattern colour only.
as in the photo you can see a blue checkered bird with bronze patches on the primaries.

If the eye colour is a bull then the bird is called a kalanka regdhar provided all the colour classifications as per the regdhar standard.
